What happens in an intimacy coaching session?

Before you schedule an intimacy coaching session, it makes sense to wonder. . . What is going to happen when you actually meet with an intimacy coach?

Most importantly, sessions happen over Zoom and never involve nudity or sexual activity between the coach and client. Nor do they involve the coach observing any sexual activity on the part of the client or their partner(s) (or vice versa!).

That’s what a session ISN’T.

What it IS is a guided, ongoing conversation about your current sexual experience, where you’d like to make changes, and suggestions from an experienced professional on how to achieve your sexual goals.

In the first session, we’ll establish a shared language that you’re comfortable with. Do you have a nickname for your vagina that you prefer? Great, we’ll use that word in our conversations. Have no idea (or don’t care) what words to use? I’m happy to provide the vocabulary.

Once we know the words we want to use, we can get to the heart of the matter: Your sexual goals and the reason you signed on for coaching at all. You’re always in control of how explicit (or not) the conversation gets. That said, it makes sense to be as honest and open as you can be. Your authenticity ensures we’re working on what actually matters to you, and helps us achieve your true goals. (And really, why spend the time and money on an intimacy coach if you’re not serious about reaching your sexual goals?)

What’s more, practicing sexual communication in sessions with a coach can improve comfort and ease when communicating with partners outside of sessions.

The structure of my coaching sessions follows a defined progression, with an Intake Session designed to capture as much information as possible on your sexual history, primary concerns, and the context for those concerns.

In four sessions thereafter (or more as the client requires or requests), we explore the physical, erotic, and relational factors that are helping or creating barriers. We may discuss power dynamics in sex, and what happens before, during, and after sexual encounters. We may dig into how you like to feel during sex, and the best ways to communicate and pursue those feelings.

We also look for gaps in knowledge that may be contributing to any sexual concerns, such as understanding of and feelings toward anatomy, or judgements about sex (as just two examples).

Sessions can focus on one individual, or the dynamics in a couple or with multiple partners. Goals can be about improving satisfaction during solo sex, communicating with a partner, finally having that orgasm, or anything else that matters to you.

The bottom line is that whether you consider yourself a certified “sexpert” or just beginning to explore your sexuality, sessions will meet you where you’re at. You’ll be comfortably challenged to move toward your sexiest, most fulfilled erotic life. Intimacy coaching is fun, informative, and ultimately about what matters most to YOU.
